What is Data Backup and Recovery?
Backup and Recovery is a process of creating and planning copies of data
that can be used to protect against data losses. Recovery from a data backup is
restoring data to its original location or any remote location.
A backup copy can be stored in a separate system, such as tape to
protect against the possibility of data loss due to primary hardware or
software failure.

Why do we need to Back up our data?
The main aim of doing a backup for our data is to create an exact copy
of our existing data so that it can be recovered in the event of primary data
failure. Primary data failure can be caused by the corruption of data, virus
attacks, accidental deletion of data, or, most commonly by primary hardware or
software failure.
Keeping the copy data on a separate medium is important to protect
against any kind of data loss. This alternate medium can act as an external
hard drive or a cloud. The separate medium can be in the same or geographical
location. Keeping in mind, the possibility of data losses due to natural
disasters, the remote locations are preferred much.
For best results, backup is done, on a consistent, regular basis to
minimize the amount of data lost during two consecutive backups. Keeping
multiple copies of data provides extra insurance when any of the other copy
gets harmed or lost.

Types of Data Backup:
There are three methods for backing up of data these are:
- Full backup
- Incremental backup
- Differential backup
Full backup
A full backup is just like its name says it’s a full backup which
backs up all the data in simple backed into one target device so this is the
simples form of backup to perform because only one target device is used.
Advantages: Data restoration that is data can be stored in
one session
Disadvantages: A regular full backup requires much more space and the
longest to perform.
Incremental backup
It is much faster than full back up because in incremental backup the
only backup data is the data that has been changed since the last full or
incremental backup.
Advantages: A regular Incremental backup requires much less space than a
full back up or differential backup.
Disadvantages: It takes the longest when we have to restore the data
because when we have to restore data after done an incremental back up we have
to restore full back up along with incremental backup and we have to store the
incremental in the same order as we backed them up.
Differential backup
It is faster than full backup but not incremental backup in
differential backup the data that is backed up is the data that has been
changed since the last full backup was performed.
Advantages: It requires less storage space than full backups.
Disadvantages: Restore faster than incremental and slower than the full
backup.
How to back up your data efficiently?
For backing up of data nothing is the perfect option every method has
their pro and cons people use as of their uses and reliability.
